Grass carp(=White amur)2 مصادر موثّقة

تعريف

Grass carp, also called white amur, is a large cyprinid native to rivers of eastern China and the Amur system of eastern Russia, imported into the United States in 1963 as a biological control agent and now farmed in enormous volume, with FAO FishStat recording 6,439,159 tonnes in 2024. Adults eat higher aquatic plants and submerged grasses, and at about 20 degrees C an adult will consume its own body weight in hydrilla in a day. That appetite is both its polyculture role, taking the macrophyte niche beside the plankton-filtering silver and bighead carps and the bottom-feeding common carp, and the reason it is stocked for weed control at roughly 10 to 15 fish per hectare of lake. It spawns only in long, fast rivers at 20 to 30 degrees C, so it will not reproduce in ponds and all seed comes from hatchery propagation; where it is released into open water, sterile triploids are used. It tolerates salinity to 10 ppt and dissolved oxygen down to 0.5 ppm, which matters when handling and transporting it. Sources disagree on its maximum size, and its reported life is a usual five to nine years against a maximum beyond twenty.

المؤشّرات الحيوية

الوزن عند البلوغ
≤ 45

maximum published weight (FishBase 45.0 kg); UF/IFAS gives 97 lb, which is 44 kg, as the maximum - the larger figure is carried here

العمر المتوقّع
5 – 21

UF/IFAS gives an average life of 5 to 9 years with individuals over 20; FishBase gives a maximum reported age of 21 years

أقصى طول
150
مصادر متعارضة

CONTRADICTED: FishBase gives 150 cm total length, UF/IFAS gives 4.6 ft (140 cm); the wider figure is carried

العمر عند أول تكاثر
2 – 6 years

FAO: fifth to sixth year in temperate Europe, males a year earlier, but 2-3 years in the tropics and subtropics

حرارة الماء المثلى
20 – 30 C

SPAWNING range in native rivers, NOT a grow-out optimum. No grow-out optimum was found in any aquaculture reference: FAO's cultured species fact sheet for grass carp states no temperature at all, and FAO Fisheries Synopsis No. 135 states only an INCUBATION optimum of 21-25 C for normal development of embryos. Do not present this value as a husbandry target.
