Cytochrome P450 11B1 Inhibitors

CYP11B1 is a mitochondrial cytochrome P450 of the adrenal cortex that carries out steroid 11-beta-, 18- and 19-hydroxylation, the final step that yields cortisol from its precursor. Drugs in this class inhibit that enzyme, lowering adrenal corticoid output. As with CYP17A1, membership is about interrupting steroid synthesis, not about altering the clearance of a co-administered drug.
