Dextrose/glycine/electrolyte is indicated for use in the control of dehydration associated with diarrhea (scours) in calves. It is used as an early treatment at the first signs of scouring. It may also be used as followup treatment following intravenous fluid therapy.

The product should not be used in animals with severe dehydration (down, comatose, or in a state of shock). Such animals need intravenous therapy. Oral therapy in these cases is too slow. Re-Sorb (glucose, glycine, and electrolytes for oral solution) is a readily absorbed source of fluids and electrolytes. It is a convenient and effective means of increasing absorption of water, energy sources, and electrolytes. Re-Sorb is indicated for use in the control of dehydration associated with diarrhea (scours) in calves, including veal calves. Re-Sorb may be used by the livestock owner as an early treatment at the first signs of scouring. It may also be used as follow-up treatment for the dehydrated calf following intravenous fluid therapy. Re-Sorb, because of its ready source of fluid and electrolytes, makes it an ideal first feed (upon arrival) for newly purchased or severely stressed calves.

Veterinary Lactated Ringer's and 5% Dextrose Injection, USP should be used with great care, if at all, in patients with hyperkalemia, severe renal failure, and in conditions in which potassium retention is present. Veterinary Lactated Ringer's and 5% Dextrose Injection, USP should be used with great care in patients with metabolic or respiratory alkalosis. The administration of lactate ions should be done with great care in those conditions in which there is an increased level or an impaired utilization of these ions, such as severe hepatic insufficiency. Veterinary Lactated Ringer's and 5% Dextrose Injection, USP should not be administered simultaneously with blood through the same administration set because of the likelihood of coagulation. The intravenous administration of Veterinary Lactated Ringer's and 5% Dextrose Injection, USP can cause fluid and/or solute overloading resulting in dilution of serum electrolyte concentrations, overhydration, congested states, or pulmonary edema. The risk of dilutional states is inversely proportional to the electrolyte concentrations of the injections. The risk of solute overload causing congested states with peripheral and pulmonary edema is directly proportional to the electrolyte concentrations of the injection. In patients with diminished renal function, administration of Veterinary Lactated Ringer's and 5% Dextrose Injection, USP may result in sodium or potassium retention. Veterinary Lactated Ringer's and 5% Dextrose Injection, USP is not for use in the treatment of lactic acidosis.

Veterinary 5% dextrose for Injection, USP

Intravenous administration must be done slowly and made under strict asepsis. Solution should be warmed to body temperature prior to administration. This is a single dose container. This product contains no preservative. After a quantity has been withdrawn for injection, the remainder should be discarded. Do not administer intraperitoneally.

DEXTROSE 50% SOLUTION

Large doses administered intravenously may have toxic action on heart if the blood level of calcium is raised excessively. Doses should be carefully regulated according to severitity of hypocalcemia and injected slowly so that administration may be stopped if toxic action becomes evident.

Norcalphos IV

Avoid storage at cold temperatures which can cause product to become cloudy. To clarify place product in warm water bath (100oF-120oF) for about 30 minutes.

Dissolve each packet in two quarts of warm water and administer to each calf. Feed 2 quarts of solution, twice daily for 2 days (four feedings). No milk or milk replacer should be fed during this period. For the next four feedings (days 3 and 4), use 1 quart of solution together with 1 quart of milk replacer. Thereafter, feed as normal.

To Open Tear overwrap down side at slit and remove solution container. Some opacity of the plastic due to moisture absorption during the sterilization process may be observed. This is normal and does not affect the solution quality or safety. The opacity will diminish gradually. Check for minute leaks by squeezing inner bag firmly. If leaks are found, discard solution as sterility may be impaired. If supplemental medication is desired, follow directions below. Preparation for Administration 1. Suspend container from eyelet support. 2. Remove protector from outlet port at bottom of container. 3. Attach administration set. Refer to complete directions accompanying set. Parenteral drug products should be inspected visually for particulate matter and discoloration prior to administration whenever solution and container permit. All solutions for injections in plastic containers are intended for intravenous administration using sterile equipment and aseptic technique. Additives may be incompatible. Warm solution to body temperature and administer slowly (10 to 30 mL per minute) by intravenous or intraperitoneal injections, using strict aseptic procedures.
