Thyroid Hormone Receptor Agonists

The thyroid hormone receptor is a nuclear hormone receptor with high affinity for triiodothyronine and thyroxine; depending on whether hormone is bound it acts as a repressor or an activator of transcription at its target genes. Drugs in this class occupy and activate it, reproducing the metabolic effects of endogenous thyroid hormone. A drug belongs here because it is an agonist at the receptor - which is why thyroid hormone replacement products sit in this class and the drugs that block hormone synthesis do not.
