  • INDICATIONS: For the treatment of erysipelas in turkeys (caused by Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae). DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: Administer orally at a dosage of 1,500,000 units of penicillin per gallon (3.8 liters) of drinking water for 5 consecutive days. DIRECTIONS: Combine contents and approximately 1 1/2 pints (710 mL) of water in a glass or plastic container. Stir to dissolve. Allow the concentrated solution to stand until the foam disappears. The concentrated solution should be used up or discarded within one hour after preparation. Automatic Watering Systems - Pour the concentrated solution into a glass or plastic container then add enough water to make 2.6 gallons (9.9 liters) of stock solution. [This amount of solution will medicate 333 gallons (1260 liters) of drinking water]. The automatic waterer should be adjusted to deliver 1 ounce (30 mL) of stock solution per gallon (3.8 liters) of drinking water. In automatic watering systems, prepare fresh solutions daily. Gravity Flow Watering Systems - Pour the concentrated solution into enough water to make 333 gallons (1260 liters) of drinking water.   • Infusion of antibiotics at the start of the drying off period has the following advantages: (1) it is active against existing infections; (2) it is prophylactic against new infections, during the time when cattle are likely to become infected [1]; (3) the antibiotic remains in the udder for a sufficiently long period to accomplish the intended objective and is not diluted with milk, as is the case in lactation therapy; (4) the danger of drug residues in the milk is reduced. Antibiotic control is to be considered an adjunct to good herd hygiene management and milking management. Detailed field studies in England and the United States have demonstrated that a program consisting of treatment, at the time of drying off, with a highly effective antibiotic preparation in a slow-release base, and routine dipping of teats after each milking with an effective disinfectant, markedly reduces the incidence of all udder infections at calving [2,3,4]. It has recently been recommended that a disinfectant teat dip be used on unmilked cows, or at least be used for 10 days before parturition [5], to reduce the bacterial challenge to the depleted levels of antibiotic in the teat as freshening is approached [6]. When the herd infection level has been reduced, or when herds are not heavily infected initially, it may be desirable to be selective in treating dry quarters [7]. Discontinue use of this drug for the following time period before treated animals are slaughtered for food: Cattle – 14 days, Sheep – 9 days, Swine – 7 days. A withdrawal period has not been established for this product in pre- ruminating calves. Do not use in calves to be processed for veal.

  • A thoroughly cleaned, sterile needle and syringe should be used for each injection (needles and syringes may be sterilized in boiling water for 15 minutes). Before withdrawing the solution from the bottle, disinfect the rubber cap top with 70% alcohol. The injection site should be similarly disinfected with alcohol. Needles of 16 to 18 gauge and 1 to 1.5 inches long are adequate for intramuscular injections. In livestock intramuscular injections should be made by directing the needle of suitable gauge and length into the fleshy part of a thick muscle, such as rump, hip, or thigh region; avoid blood vessels and major nerves. Before injecting the solution, pull back gently on the plunger. If blood appears in the syringe, a blood vessel has been entered; withdraw the needle and select a different site.

  • At the time of drying off, but not less than 30 days prior to calving, milk the udder dry. Wash the teats and udder thoroughly with warm water containing a suitable dairy antiseptic. Dry the teats and udder thoroughly. Infuse each quarter using the following procedure. Using the alcohol pads provided, scrub each teat end clean using a separate pad for each teat. Warm ALBADRY PLUS Suspension to body temperature and shake thoroughly. Choose the desired insertion length (full or partial) and insert tip into teat canal. Instill entire contents into the quarter.
